Judo: Class 19: Re-Return of Big Mike and OW MY BACK

So, my back seized up last Friday, and I don’t know if it was Judo related or not. Anyway, I spent all of the weekend unable to bend over. It felt like my vertebrae in my lower back just weren’t stacking right, and a nerve was being pinched.

Well, lots of painful stretching, moving, bending, finally got a ‘pop’ that made things better. A second pop on Sunday got rid of most of the pain, but my back was still very weak sore.

So the responsible thing would be to not do Judo.

NOT DO JUDO?! HELL NO.

So I’m at Judo and just taking it as easy as possible, when good old Big Mike walks in. The man loves fighting, what can I say. So I partner up with him to partake in the wisdom of fighting which he loves to share non-Judo techniques or techniques from other fighting styles. It’s always educational and makes me rethink of a lot of stuff. Tonight was no different and I was very glad to suck up the knowledge.

He decided to go No-Gi against another Brown belt to which Sensei Brett had to shut them down and say “JUDO!! DO JUDO HERE!” That was funny.

I didn’t Randori competitively that night because of my back, but I felt much better and my back much better afterwards. I’m glad I didn’t wuss out and not go to practice.

I should point out, that means I haven’t missed a practice in a very long time. The key to getting good at Judo is never missing practice.

I’m sure Big Mike will pop in again in a few months. I always like seeing him even though I’m such a pansy non-macho type compared to him.
