Judo: Classes 22-24

I don’t know if anyone actually follows this (E-mail me at allen@showyoufitness if you do!) but I don’t know how I keep getting so behind. I’m so exhausted after Judo usually I don’t write down my thoughts.
This was an interesting period.
Observations:
We learned a lot of new throws and techniques. I’m getting much better on the ground but as always have a LOT to learn. My fitness is improving tremendously. I’ve started a ‘100 pushups program’. I could barely do 4 pushups when I started Judo. Now I can do over 60 with minor rests, and at least 25-30 in one spurt. My cardio has improved. Everything is getting better.
Still, I’ve had some frustrating times. Never enough to make me want to quit (11TH DAN OR DEATH!) but it can be hard. The labor day holiday was in here and being gone from Judo for a week is a KILLER when you come back. So, I’m going to add even more exercise throughout the week to help.
I’ve made a major realization with my Judo. My general poor fitness and over-weightedness is holding me back. In the past I’ve waffled about just slowing losing the weight and trying to improve my strength or blasting the weight off all at once. I’m now pretty clear that the close to 50lbs of fat I’ve got strapped to my body is hurting my Judo by making my falls hurt more, my knees hurt more, my body move slower, and taking the wind out of me faster so it’s harder to learn technique.
So, weight must die.
On a controlled calorie and eating plan with lots of LISS cardio until I destroy a massive amount of fat. I’m scheduling a ‘BodPod’ bodyfat measurement at EWU so I can get an actual accurate number to start from. Scale weight vs. bodyfat can be deceptive, and the cheap body fat measurements are too unreliable for me. So, I need a professional measurement. $25! I will probably do this every month to ensure I’m losing approximately 4-8lbs of fat a month. This will let me know if my plan is burning lean tissue instead of fat. It will also help me calibrate my cheap bioelectric scale that measures bodyfat to see how close it is.
It is my personality when I jump into something to go both feet (ironically, except when I’m doing Judo where I have the hardest time ‘taking the fall&rsquo
. I love Judo, therefore I love fitness, therefore I love measurements, therefore I’m eating oatmeal everyday; because I love Judo.
Funny how that is.
TOURNAMENT APPROACHING OCT 9TH!!
Sorry for not having a lot of specific detail or insight from these classes. They were pretty ‘ho hum’ for funny stories or details. Tim THE MAN has continued to attend and I’ve just learned so much from him. Everyone is really great and nice to work with.
